Do not listen to your eyes,

Do not listen to your eyes, and do not believe what you see.
The eyes see only what ‘is limited.
Look with your understanding, find out what you already know ‘,
Then you’ll learn how to fly.
Non dar retta ai tuoi occhi, e non credere a quello che vedi.
Gli occhi vedono solo ciò’ che è limitato.
Guarda col tuo intelletto, e scopri quello che conosci già’,

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

O essendo odiato, non dare spazio all’odio,
Senza tuttavia sembrare troppo buono, né parlare troppo da saggio;

Se puoi sognare, senza fare dei sogni i tuoi padroni;

from uncle Claudio – a letter to you

Letter for a child to be born.

The words are not mine.
but the words I want to say

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, well never mind, you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now, how much possibility was before you and how fabulous you really looked.
You are not as fat as you imagine.
Don’t worry about the future or worry but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4 pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts; Don’t put up with other people who are reckless with yours.
 Floss.
Don’t waste your time on jealously, sometimes you ahead, sometimes your behind.
The race is long, an in the end its only with yourself.
Remembers compliments you receive; forget the insults.
If you succeed in doing this tell me how.
Keep  your old love letters-Throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life.
The most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives.
Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.
Maybe  you’ll marry; Maybe you won’t.
Maybe you’ll have children; Maybe you won’t.
Maybe you’ll divorce at 40; Maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken at your 75th wedding anniversary.
Whatever you do don’t congratulate yourself to much of bright yourself either.
You choices are ½ chance- so are everybody else’s.
Enjoy you body, use it every way you can-Don’t be afraid of it-or what other people think of it; It’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.
Dance-even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions-even if you don’t follow them.
Do not read beauty magazines they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents.
You never know when they’ll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings.
They’re your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who knew you when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise.
Politicians will philander.
You, too, will get old.
And when you do, you’ll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you.
Maybe you have a trust fund.
Maybe you’ll have a wealthy spouse.
you never know when either one might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair or by the time you’re 40 it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen.
and this is him, looks like a guy you can trust, huh?

Love

Dear child you are still very small. Can you stay in your mom’s belly. But I write these words that I want you to remember all your life.
“Love is always patient and kind, never jealous, love is never pretentious or full of himself, is never rude or selfish, is not offended and holds a grudge.”

One day I’d like to speak of ‘love.
Your uncle Italian. Claudio
